It's Sew NiCE - projects that bring joy
Make these at home, or with your sewing group then just
ship them to or drop them off at the NiCE Foundation and
we will see that they are delivered to infants in Nicaragua.

Bookbags
These quick and easy book bags can be made using a fat quarter plus scraps for the pocket or upcycle some jeans for a durable and fun way to keep students organized.
Poly cord found in the hardware aisle of your favorite store makes soft yet durable straps adn they come in bright colors, too! Be sure to seal the ends to prevent raveling.
Half Aprons
Aprons are fun to make and can be a great stash buster. Half or full aprons are greatly appreciated by cooks of either gender who need to protect their limited clothing from the occasional food prep stains.
Aprons can also be upcycled from men's shirts or valances. This apron was upcycled from a sturdy valance. It was cut in half, pockets and ties were
added a voila, a new apron!

Zippered Bags
Simple zippered bags are perfect for keeping personal or hygiene items safe and dry or as pencil bags for teachers. These were made from free upholstery samples and scraps and random zippers.
Contact us if you want free fabric samples from our surplus or ask at your local fabric or upholstery shop for their discards. Shops who donate leftovers and samples can receive a tax donation letter for their business.

Pillowcases
These fun and colorful pillowcases are quick and easy but a flange, lace, or other things can be added to jazz up a plain case.
Nicaraguans love bright colors and for people living in desolate conditions, a cheerful pillowcase can brighten a dreary room.

Pocket Fliers
Crocheted - foldable unlike Frisbees
While not a sewing project, these quick to make Frisbee like discs are loads of fun. The kids love them and they take up little space in family and school boxes. A great recess toy and all ages!

Cloth Diapers
Great upcycle project or use new fabric!
A quick and easy sewing project. 10 x 12 " or smaller is fine. Flannel, T-shirts, or cotton with the soaker pad of the same or second-hand fleece also works well. There are many patterns online for free and used receiving blankets, flannel sheets make inexpensive cloth diaper fabrics sources.
